Head Waiter

Novel is a dining concept highlighting good, hearty food that nourishes both body and soul. We are seeking a high-performing hospitality professional to help run day-to-day operations while contributing to increasing restaurant revenue and leading our teams in producing high-quality service. You are passionate about creating memorable food experiences and are genuinely interested in food and people.  

To be successful in this role, you must have strong managerial and interpersonal skills, including listening and communication skills, organizational skills, and motivational skills. Result-oriented and solutions-driven, with an eye for detail, and excel in high-pressure and high-stress environments. We are looking for someone to help build a new concept ensuring brand clarity and integrity are always maintained.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working closely with the Food & Beverage Manager and the rest of the staff.

  • Can multitask and enjoy working in a busy, fast-paced environment.

  • Creating a welcoming environment for our guests.

  • Efficiently taking orders from guests at tables in the restaurant, courtyard & lounge.

  • Handle a section with multiple tables, ensuring swift service and displaying proper waiter skills.

  • Being able to memorize Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner & Beverage menus.

  • Ensuring the correct table setup, handover, and breakdown of the restaurant.

  • Polish table hardware such as plates, cutlery and glasses.

  • Showcasing food and beverage knowledge through taking orders and providing advice on ingredients, dietary restrictions, and upselling. 

  • Provide excellent customer service to everyone, anticipating the guest’s needs.

  • Keep the restaurant clean & tidy by following daily structures set by the Food & Beverage Manager. 

  • Passionate about food and beverage and keen to learn while working.

  • Possess a ‘’can-do’’ attitude, team player, and good communication skills.


Head Waiter should also:

  • Oversee & execute monthly, weekly and daily routines of the restaurant instructing the team to follow the procedures.

  • Collaborate with Food & Beverage Manager regarding HR related tasks such as but not limited to: hiring, terminations, evaluations of waiters/runners, disciplinary actions etc, 

  • Participate in weekly meetings with the Food & Beverage Manager.

  • Take reservations by phone and online and organize the tables for optimal service flow.

  • Train new employees to become waiters & runners in accordance with our Restaurant standards

  • On a weekly basis, train waiters and runners to improve waiter skills and ensure the restaurant is optimally organized.

  • On a daily basis follow up on the team and point out focus areas to the team to improve on.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 2-3 years of experience as a Head Waiter or similar position.

  • Strong command of both spoken and written English with fluency in Greek preferred

  • Knowledge of the food and beverage industry 

  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and business management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship with a positive attitude and ability to lead and motivate a team

  • Ability to stand on your feet for several hours and lift up to 20 kg if required 

  • Basic math & financial calculations
